Kamiński Eugeniusz

He was born on 8th November, 1931, in Bydgoszcz. He was a theatre and film actor.

In 1956, he graduated from the Leon Schiller National Film School in Łódź. He made his début in the play ‘Faryzeusze i Grzesznik’ directed by Maria Kaniewska-Forbert, staged at Powszechny Theatre. Later on, he worked for New Theatre in Łódź (in the years 1956-1959 and 1962-1968), the Polish Theatre in Poznań (in the years 1960-1961), the Juliusz Słowacki Theatre in Cracow (in the years 1961-1962), and Powszechny Theatre in Łódź (in the years 1968-1970), successively. In 1971, he focused on Warsaw-based theatres and performed on stage of the Classical Theatre in Warsaw (in the years 1971-1972), the Studio Theatre Gallery (in the years 1972-1979), the Wola Theatre (in the years 1986-1990), and finally the Arnold Szyfman Polish Theatre in Warsaw (in the years 1990-1999).

Throughout his professional career, he played more than 150 roles, both in theatre and film. He worked with many of the most outstanding Polish film directors. You can admire his talent in ‘Prawdziwy koniec wielkiej wojny / Real End of the Great War’ (1957) directed by Jerzy Kawalerowicz, ‘Ewa chce spać / Eve Wants to Sleep’ (1957), ‘Gdzie jest generał…’ (1963) and ‘Jak rozpętałem drugą wojnę światową / How I Unleashed World War II’ (1969) – all three directed by Tadeusz Chmielewski, in ‘Wolne Miasto / Free City’ (1958), ‘Westerplatte / Westerplatte Resists’ (1967) and ‘Opadły liście z drzew / Fallen Leaves’ (1975) – all three directed by Stanisław Różewicz, as well as in two films directed by Janusz Morgenstern: ‘Życie raz jeszcze / Back to Life Again’ (1964) and ‘Polskie drogi / Polish Roads’ (1976). He was also case in three films directed by Zbigniew Kuźmiński LINK (a native of Bydgoszcz), namely in ‘Raj na ziemi / Heaven on Earth’ (1970) , ‘Krótkie życie / Short Life’ (1976) and ‘Krab i Joanna / Crab and Joanna’ (1980). In 1980, he was cast in the television series ‘Dom / The House; directed by Jan Łomnicki. After that, he played in ‘Matka Królów / The Mother of Kings’ (1982) directed by Janusz Zaorski, in the television productions ‘Królewskie sny / Royal Dreams’ (1988) and ‘Pogranicze w ogniu / Borderland on Fire’ (1991), then in two films directed by Jacek Bromski: ‘Kuchnia polska’ (1991) – both in the full-length film and the television series – and in ‘1968. Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku / 1968. Happy New Year’ (1992), in ‘ Szwadron / The Squadron’ (1992) directed by Juliusz Machulski, or in the television series ‘Tygrysy Europy’ (2003) directed by Jerzy Gruza, in the latter of which he portrayed the grandfather of the main protagonist Elżbieta Nowakowa.

Eugeniusz Kamiński was also known for his performances in Teatr Telewizji (Television Theatre) and radio dramas broadcast on the Polish Radio Theatre.
He died on 12th October 2018, in Warsaw. He was interred at the Powązki Military Cemetery in Warsaw.
