Wichrowski Robert

Robert Wichrowski was born in Bydgoszcz in February 1966. He is a film and TV Director, and maker of commercials and videoclips, as well as documentary films dedicated to sport. He is a graduate in Polish studies and political studies from the University of Gdańsk, a course in film directing organised by the Andrzej Wajda School at the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow, and a course in TV directing organised by the Television Direction Department at the Film School in Łódź.

Wichrowski started his career bymaking films dedicated to Polish athletes and climbers.  His first film success came with the documentary film ,,Łzy mistrzów”/”Tears of Champions” (2000), which won awards at the biggest festival of films about sport in Milan. Another award came for his documentary film dedicated to Himalayan mountaineers ,,W cieniu K2″/”In the Shadow of K2″, at Przegląd Filmów Alpinistycznych im. Wandy Rutkiewicz (A Review of Films about Climbing) in Trenčianske Teplice, Slovakia.

In 2006, he made his full-feature début entitled ,,Francuski numer”/”The French Trick”, a crazy comedy featuring Jan Frycz and Karolina Gruszka, which brought him the Felix Award dedicated to successful people, and given by the editorial staff of the Gazeta Wyborcza daily newspaper in Bydgoszcz. Wierzchowski was the successful film director behind such popular TV series as ,,Brzydula”, ,,Klub Szalonych Dziewic”, ,,Szpilki na Giewoncie”, ,,Wiadomości z drugiej ręki”, and ,,Komisarz Alex”.

In 2014, he made the documentary film entitled ,,Ostatnia droga”, about the death of Father  Jerzy Popiełuszko. In that same year, he made the full-length film Karuzela, about a group of young people starting their adult lives.

In 2018, he has stormed cinemas with his ,,Syn Królowej Śniegu”/”The Son of Snow Queen”, featuring an excellent performance by Michalina Olszańska as the Snow Queen, and a number of outstanding Polish actors, for example Franciszek Pieczka and Anna Seniuk. The film is a combination of drama and a modern fairy tale, where good fights evil. The action takes in two intertwining dimensions – the real one and the poetic and fairy-tale one.

Still in 2018, he also premièred his next film ,,Kobieta sukcesu”/”Successful Woman”, featuring Agnieszka Więdłocha, Mikołak Roznerski, Bartosz Gelner, Julia Wieniawa, Małgorzata Foremniak, and Tomasz Karolak. The film tells a story of a company boss in a big city, whose life is suddenly turned upside down.
