Nowicki Krzysztof

A documentary Director and an animator in the film community, Nowicki was born in 1980 in Bydgoszcz. He is the initiator and founder of two film studios: Stealtheapple and KolorOFFon (since 2008). The KolorOFFon film studio specialises in documentary pictures which unobtrusively observe the “ordinary persons” and their everyday livee.

Within this group of filmmakers, Nowicki promotes ambitious auteur cinema. Initially, he organised regular screenings at the Mózg Club in Bydgoszcz, later the Third Eye Festival, and currently the Przeźrocza Festival at the Municipal Culture Centre in Bydgoszcz.

He has created several films, such as Najstarszy człowiek świata/The Oldest Man in the World (2008), Reggae to moje życie/Reggae is my Life (2008), Iść przez życie bez pośpiechu/Through Life without Rush (2008) and 21 (2011), which depicts the life of people with Down Syndrome.

He has also filmed a series of pictures closely linked to the contemporary history of Bydgoszcz, particularly in the context of changes which occurred following the end of the Polish People’s Republic. The first episode, which earned the Director numerous awards, was Basen/The Swimming Pool (2011), a film about a closed municipal swimming pool located on Nakielska Street. The second film was Tu było kino/The Cinema Was Here (2011), a nostalgic journey across various places in Bydgoszcz where the communist-era cinemas were located. As of today, none of those 22 cinemas exist, except for the rebuilt Orzeł Cinema.

Nowicki’s latest films include Być jak Ironman/Be Like the Ironman (2015), Away from Reykjavik (2015) and Sen Leocadii/Leocadia’s Dream (2017), made for the Studio Munka film studio.
