Damian Nenow is a man of many talents – he is a filmmaker, director, screenwriter, film editor, and the creator of animated films. He was born on 19th June 1983 in Wrocław, but is strongly connected with Bydgoszcz, where he spent his childhood and developed an interest in art and animated film. He furthered his passions in Leon Wyczółkowski National Art School in Bydgoszcz.
Damian Nenow is a graduate of the National Film School in Łódź. His first film, The Aim (2004), was appreciated by the audience and received many awards (the special award at the ReAnimacja (ReAnimation) Festival in Łódź, and the first award at the Dozwolone do 21 lat (Allowed Until the Age of 21) Festival in Tarnów).
Miasto ruin (The City of Ruins) (2010) is an animated short film presenting Warsaw in the spring of 1945. The film is displayed in the Warsaw Rising Museum as a permanent exhibit. Nenow’s next film, Paths of Hate (2010), was acclaimed by many critics, including the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, which put the film on the list of 10 films competing for the 2012 Oscar nomination as the Best Animated Short Film. Moreover, Paths of Hate received over 20 film awards.
The film directed by Damian Nenow in 2018, Jeszcze dzień życia (Another Day of Life), is a Polish-Spanish animated feature film based on the book by Ryszard Kapuściński. In the film we hear such actors as Marcin Dorociński, Olga Bołądź, Tomasz Ziętek and Arkadiusz Jakubik. The movie is definitely worth seeing. It received numerous nominations and awards, including the award for the Best Animated Feature Film at the Anilogue International Animation Festival in Budapest, The European Film Awards in the category Best Animated Film, the Goya Award of the Spanish Academy of Arts and Cinematographic in the category Best Animated Film, and the Audience Award at the WAMA Film Festival in Olsztyn.
